The Position:

Makpar has an exciting opportunity for a Senior SharePoint Database Administrator (DBA).  The Senior SharePoint Database Administrator provides advanced administration, engineering, and operational support for Microsoft SharePoint environments supporting Federal mission systems. This role is responsible for the design, configuration, security, performance, availability, and lifecycle management of SharePoint content databases and supporting SQL Server or Azure SQL platforms in alignment with Federal cybersecurity, compliance, and data governance requirements.

The Senior SharePoint DBA ensures high availability, disaster recovery, data integrity, and secure access across SharePoint Server (on-premises) and SharePoint Online hybrid environments, supporting both development/modernization efforts and steady-state operations.

Years of Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of demonstrated experience administering SharePoint environments in enterprise or Federal Government IT environments
  • At least 5 years supporting SharePoint databases (SharePoint Server and/or SharePoint Online back-end services) in production environments
  • Experience supporting Federal agencies or regulated environments preferred

Key Responsibilities:

SharePoint Database Administration

  • Administer, maintain, and optimize SharePoint content databases, service application databases, and usage databases
  • Design and implement database strategies supporting SharePoint Server, hybrid, and M365 environments
  • Perform database provisioning, upgrades, patching, and decommissioning in accordance with change management procedures
  • Monitor database health, performance, growth, and storage utilization; implement tuning and optimization strategies

Availability, Backup, and Disaster Recovery

  • Design and execute backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies for SharePoint databases using native and third-party tools
  • Support high availability (HA) and failover architectures, including clustering and geo-redundancy where applicable
  • Conduct regular DR tests and validate recovery time and recovery point objectives (RTO/RPO)

Security and Compliance

  • Implement and enforce database security controls aligned with NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP, and IRS/CDM requirements
  • Manage service accounts, permissions, encryption, and privileged access in coordination with ICAM and cybersecurity teams
  • Support audits, ATO activities, STIG compliance, and POA&M remediation efforts

SharePoint Operations and Modernization Support

  • Collaborate with SharePoint architects, administrators, developers, and cloud teams to support modernization and migration initiatives
  • Support content migrations, upgrades, and transformations (e.g., SharePoint Server to SharePoint Online)
  • Troubleshoot complex SharePoint/database issues, including performance degradation, data corruption, and service failures
  • Support Power Platform, search, workflow, and integration dependencies related to SharePoint data stores

Documentation and Collaboration

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including database architecture diagrams, SOPs, runbooks, and configuration baselines
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, operational reviews, and change control boards (CCB)
  • Provide Tier 3 escalation support and subject matter expertise to operations and engineering teams

Required Technical Skills

  • Microsoft SharePoint Server and/or SharePoint Online administration
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server (on-prem and/or Azure SQL)
  • Database backup, restore, replication, and performance tuning
  • PowerShell scripting for SharePoint and database automation
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, or hybrid environments
  • Understanding of SharePoint service architecture (Search, User Profile, Managed Metadata, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Power Platform dependencies on SharePoint data

Federal & Compliance Experience

  • Experience supporting systems subject to NIST 800-53, FISMA, FedRAMP, OMB, and CDM
  • Participation in ATO packages, security assessments, and continuous monitoring activities
  • Experience supporting agencies such as IRS, DOJ, DHS, VA, or other civilian/DoD organizations (preferred)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field
  • Equivalent experience may be substituted in accordance with contract labor category requirements

Required & Preferred Certifications Required (One or More)

  • Microsoft Certified: SQL Server / Azure Database Administration (or successor role-based certification)
  • Microsoft Certified: Microsoft 365 Enterprise Administrator or equivalent

Highly Desired / Preferred

  • Microsoft Certified: SharePoint Certification (legacy or current role-based equivalents)
  • ITIL Foundation

Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Security+

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
  • Federal security or cloud certifications aligned to FedRAMP/NIST environments

Clearance Requirement

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust / Moderate or High-Risk Background Investigation
  • U.S. Citizenship required (as applicable per RFP)
