Promptfoo
Job Description
Why Promptfoo
Promptfoo is an open-source framework for evaluating AI agents, red teaming, and AI application security. Over 250,000 developers use it to test LLMs, LLM-powered applications, and agent behavior across tools and models, and plug into CI/CD. Promptfoo is the most popular open-source AI red-teaming framework and is growing quickly. Promptfoo is backed by Insight Partners and Andreessen Horowitz and is based in San Mateo, CA (SF Bay Area).
Why this Role
Promptfoo has a thriving open source community of 250,000+ developers who help our engineering team build out a strong product. This also helps build out an efficient path to the enterprise pipeline. This role exists to turn that interest into adoption and commercialization.
As a Technical Marketing Engineer, you will create the technical demos, tutorials, and videos that help developers discover Promptfoo. You will also support the Solutions Engineering team with late-stage deal acceleration.
What You’ll Be Doing
Content & Technical Education
- Create technical tutorials, deep dives, quickstart guides, and how-to guides using real configs, datasets, and results
- Produce clear, concise video demos (2-5 minutes) featuring live walkthroughs, diagrams, and screenshots
- Write blog posts that showcase new features, integrations, and attack techniques
- Validate fixes and new features; create content to promote these for prospects and customers
PLG Conversion
- Drive the OSS to Enterprise adoption transition pathways of our technical practitioners
- Identify high-value open source users and build programs to move them into the enterprise path
- Collaborate with the DevRel team to support user journeys in Discord and GitHub including answering questions, turning FAQs into docs, and surfacing product feedback
- Share practical tips and insights in external communities (Reddit, Hackernews, Package Hunt, LinkedIn, etc.) to build awareness
- Surface insights on what’s resonating (and what’s not) to improve PLG conversion
Conferences & Live Content
- Submit and deliver talks at security conferences (Black Hat Arsenal, BSides, DEF CON)
- Host webinars, office hours, and live workshops for developers and security teams
- Represent Promptfoo at events with technical depth and authenticity
- Build custom demos and technical collateral for prospects for late stage opportunities
Demos & Integrations
- Build small, well-documented sample apps that showcase Promptfoo capabilities
- Demonstrate modern patterns for red teaming, agents, RAG security, guardrails, and CI/CD integration
- Track new AI frameworks and model APIs; publish examples and integrations quickly
Who You Are
- 5+ years in technical marketing, developer advocacy, solutions engineering, or a similar technical role
- Engineering background with strong Python or TypeScript skills; able to build clean, minimal demos
- Comfortable on camera; experienced creating video content, presenting live, or delivering technical talks
- Clear understanding of security concepts: red teaming, penetration testing, vulnerability scanning
- High agency: you plan your own work, ship weekly, and iterate based on data
- Clear, concise communicator who can explain complex topics to both developers and executives
- Authentic presence: you are a practitioner first
Must-have
- Experience with LLMs, AI/ML applications, or AI security tooling
- Track record of conference talks, published guides, or technical video content
- Familiarity with product-led growth motions and community-driven GTM
- Background in open source communities or developer tools
