Job Description

Role Overview

This role focuses on supporting a large-scale database migration and modernization initiative. The primary objective is to transition enterprise databases from legacy infrastructure to modern, supported platforms while upgrading Oracle database versions and ensuring system security, stability, and performance. This is a high-priority, time-sensitive initiative with no new application development—purely infrastructure and database-focused transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage physical database architectures and DBMS environments
  • Perform database optimization, capacity planning, migrations, installations, and performance tuning
  • Administer and maintain Oracle databases (10g, 11g, 12c, 19c) in large multi-tenant environments
  • Design, build, and configure Oracle database servers across Windows, Linux, and Unix-based systems
  • Lead and support enterprise Oracle database migrations to newer versions (19c or higher)
  • Ensure database performance for enterprise applications (e.g., GIS, Java, and web-based systems)
  • Implement and maintain database security, auditing, and compliance controls
  • Support both cloud-based and on-premise database environments
  • Configure and manage advanced Oracle features (e.g., Data Guard, RAC, TDE, OEM)
  • Perform backup/recovery planning and execution
  • Troubleshoot complex database issues and provide expert-level support
  • Conduct systems analysis and contribute to technical solution design
  • Coordinate implementation of complex systems and assist with data refresh activities
  • Identify, assess, and communicate technical risks and mitigation strategies
  • Document technical work and ensure effective knowledge transfer

Qualifications

Experience Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in Database Administration or related IT roles
  • Strong experience with Oracle database technologies across multiple versions
  • Expertise in database optimization, migration, performance tuning, and backup/recovery
  • Experience working with multiple operating systems (Windows, Linux, Unix)
  • Experience with SQL and query languages
  • Familiarity with incident, change, and configuration management processes
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and collaborate within a team

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with distributed systems, middleware, and data integration
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity practices and vulnerability remediation
  • Experience with data warehousing (e.g., Oracle OBIEE)
  • Understanding of enterprise architecture methodologies and tools
  • Knowledge of information management principles and practices
  • Experience with ERP or case management systems
  • Familiarity with patching, release management, and system upgrades

Knowledge Transfer

  • Participate in regular knowledge transfer sessions with internal teams
  • Deliver complete documentation and technical artifacts
  • Ensure proper handover of all work to designated stakeholders

Evaluation Criteria

Database Analysis & Implementation (50%)

  • Extensive hands-on Oracle database experience (10+ years)
  • Proven experience with database optimization, migration, and performance tuning
  • Experience managing multi-version Oracle environments
  • Demonstrated success in database migrations to modern platforms

Technical Delivery (20%)

  • Experience implementing complex systems and performing impact analysis
  • Strong coordination, planning, and system design capabilities
  • Knowledge of distributed systems and emerging technology trends

Communication & Collaboration (30%)

  • Ability to document technical work for knowledge transfer
  • Strong communication of complex technical topics
  • Proven collaboration and teamwork skills

Must-Have Skills

  • End-to-end database administration (design, optimization, migration, performance tuning)
  • Oracle database expertise (10g–19c+) in enterprise environments
  • Experience with large-scale Oracle migration initiatives
  • Multi-platform database server configuration (Windows/Linux/Unix)
  • Advanced database troubleshooting and systems analysis
